During the recent Doors Open event I was asked by my friend Karl if I’d like to curate the Doors Open Instagram feed. I thought it’d be pretty fun to try out so I said yes. My photog friends Nick Stanley and Brian Douglas also contributed during the day. It was an interesting experience as I’m far more used to posting my DSLR images and not shots directly from my phone camera. Since the event I’ve been managing to add photos to both my own feed as well as the Doors Open one.
We all posted shots during our visits on top of our post processed images before and after the event.
Doors Open Waterloo Region has come and gone for another year. It rained for a good chunk of the day but that didn’t stop me from getting to as many sites as I could although I wasn’t able to get many exterior shots. In the end I made it to 15 of the 48 sites, with one of those being my pre-visit to the Quantum-Nano Centre. And truthfully, I was barely at Christie Digital, but that’s only because they had guided tours and I was on a bit of a time crunch as I, along with my super-talented friends Nick Stanley and Brian Douglas, were tasked with curating the Doors Open Instagram feed. We’re still adding photos so be sure to check it out.
Below is a pretty large gallery of most of the sites I made it to:
• The Quantum-Nano Centre
• The Perimeter Institute
• Shopify Plus
• 48 Ontario Street
• St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
• Trinity United Church
• Sweet Tooth
• Reebee
• Square
• MappedIn
• Bridgit
• Christie Digital
• University of Waterloo School of Architecture
• Cambridge Old City Hall
• Trinity Anglican Church
September 17 is the day for Doors Open Waterloo Region, one of my favourite yearly events. I only had the chance to do a pre-visit to one site this year which was the Quantum-Nano Centre located at the University of Waterloo.
One other super crazy thing I’m excited about is tours at the Perimeter Institute. Yes! I’ve long been a fan of this building so finally being able to see the insides has me pretty pumped. They had a limited number of tickets available, and if you don’t have one yet then you’re out of luck as they’re completely booked. The images included are ones I’ve taken over the years, with a few as recently as last Wednesday.
Last year I hit 8 locations. I’m not sure if I’ll meet or break that number this year, but I’ll definitely post some photos of what I do see.
